Coming soon.... Field Trips!
Fourth grade will go to the Fort Worth Museum of Science and History.
First and second grade will go to the Dallas Museum of Nature and Science.
Notes are going home today! Be sure to return your permission forms soon.
Each child will need to bring a sack lunch and two drinks the day of the trip.
The trip is free for GT students, thanks to our wonderful GPISD Advanced Academics department!
Parents may attend with us and we would love to have you; however, parents may not ride on the bus. They will need to take their own vehicles.
Third and fifth grades have already enjoyed trips this year to the Dallas Arboretum (3rd) and MarketPlace (5th).

What's going on in GT?!
Third grade GT students read the book The Tale of Despereaux by Kate DiCamillo.
Then we had a special lunch and movie viewing in the GT room.
The next day in GT these students created double bubble maps comparing the book to the movie.
Lots of similarities and lots of differences!
An extra challenge is making sure your double bubble map is balanced.
True contrasting considers both sides --
i.e. In the book Despereaux saves the princess.
In the movie Roscuro saves the princess.
Deep thinking!
Hmmm... what else could I include?!
Third graders should be able to tell their parents the difference between
comparing -- looking at SIMILARITIES
and
contrasting -- looking at DIFFERENCES!

Fifth grade GT students created character sketches of characters from
Call It Courage by Armstrong Sperry. We loved the novel!
Their sketches included actual and inferred
thoughts
speech
emotions
actions
&
weaknesses.
Mafatu and his trusty companion, Uri!
Here we have
Mafatu, Moana, &
of course the chief, Tavana Nui!
Mafatu's mother
These guys created the god of the
fishermen and the god of the sea,
Maui & Moana!

Camp Invention in GPISD this June!
I want to encourage you all to consider CAMP INVENTION. This is the first year that GPISD has offered this incredible opportunity to students! Another flyer about CAMP INVENTION will be sent home next week. They are offering a discount if you find a friend who wants to come also. If you can't find anyone, please let me know and maybe I can pair your application with someone else's in order to give you both the discount price. The discount price is $190 per child for the two weeks.
